The Vibe

50th Parallel Estate Winery is where Lake Country wine country reaches its most ambitious and breathtaking expression. Named for the precise geographic parallel on which the estate sits — the northernmost Okanagan wine region and one of the world's most distinctive cool-climate wine zones — the property was the vision of proprietors Sheri-Lee Turner Krouzel and Curtis Krouzel, who first spotted the hillside across the lake from their cottage on a summer evening and knew immediately that something extraordinary was possible here. The result is a 61-acre estate built on rare pink granite soils, surrounded by panoramic Okanagan Lake views, and housed in an internationally award-winning architectural complex that includes a glass-walled transparent tasting room, the misted and covered Gravity Lounge, and a newly constructed underground wine cave system tunnelled into the granite hillside below. Grand in scale, but never cold or distant — 50th Parallel has the rare quality of making every visitor feel like an honoured guest.

The Experience

50th Parallel offers the most diverse and elevated portfolio of experiences on the entire Scenic Sip trail — a range that stretches from the accessible $15 per person tasting experience, to the beautifully guided Gravity Lounge Seated Tasting at $35 per person all the way to the Unparalleled Experience, a private 10-course dinner with wines selected by the guest from the 20,000-bottle library at $500 per person. The Grape to Glass Tour is the most popular structured experience — a comprehensive walk through vineyards and the state-of-the-art production facility concluding with five estate wines in the tasting room. The Granite Tour adds the underground wine cave to the journey, while the Wine Cave and Library Experience delivers the full depth of the estate's winemaking history in an atmosphere of genuine luxury. BLOCK ONE Restaurant is a destination in its own right — an engineering marvel of cantilevered outdoor dining covered by an internationally award-winning architectural structure, with a menu built around regional and seasonal ingredients curated by Sommelier and Director of Hospitality Anthony Chalmers, who pairs each dish with estate wines in a way that genuinely elevates both.

The Wine

Winemaker Matthew Fortuna has built 50th Parallel's reputation on a tightly focused portfolio centred on Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and aromatic whites — a deliberate choice that reflects the estate's exceptional cool-climate granite terroir and the winemaking philosophy that doing fewer things extraordinarily well will always beat doing many things adequately. The flagship Pinot Noir is among the finest in BC — structured, elegant, and shaped by the rare pink granite soils that give the wines a distinctive mineral freshness unlike anything else on the Scenic Sip trail. The Chardonnay and Pinot Gris deliver the complexity and precision of a world-class cool-climate site, while the Gewürztraminer and Riesling express the aromatic intensity that Lake Country's extended growing season enables so beautifully. The wine cave houses every vintage the estate has ever produced — a library that tells the story of a winery still in its most exciting chapter.
