A Defining Moment for the Okanagan Wine Industry
One of the most iconic wineries in West Kelowna is Mission Hill Family Estate Winery. With its dramatic hilltop architecture — including a Roman-style amphitheatre, a 12-storey bell tower, and dozens of commissioned art pieces — the estate has become one of the most recognizable wineries in Canada.
In 1992, Mission Hill’s Chardonnay famously won a prestigious international blind tasting competition against renowned French wines. That moment helped put the Okanagan Valley on the global wine map and is often credited as a turning point for the region’s rapid growth — from around 30 wineries in the early 1990s to well over 180 today.
