The Vibe
Arrowleaf Cellars carries a distinctly European soul that reveals itself immediately — in the old-world winemaking philosophy, in the Swiss family warmth of the hospitality, and in the quietly spectacular hilltop setting above Okanagan Lake that makes guests feel they've stumbled into a corner of the Swiss countryside. Founded by Joe and Margrit Zuppiger, who emigrated from Switzerland in 1986 and spent years farming dairy and fruit before purchasing the Suncrest Vineyard in 1997, Arrowleaf is a winery built on patience and genuine agricultural love. Son Manuel's winemaking training in Switzerland, Australia's Barossa Valley, and at Hillside and Tinhorn Creek brought an international perspective that elevated the estate to national recognition — and yet somehow the place has never lost the quiet, unhurried charm of a family operation that simply loves what it does.
The Experience
Arrowleaf offers one of the most creative and flexible tasting experiences on the Scenic Sip trail — from the intimate barrel cellar seated tasting for larger groups to the beloved Taste Spuds pairing that matches five wines with a rigorously curated chip selection in what is genuinely one of the most joyful and inventive tasting formats in the Okanagan. The view deck and picnic area are the social heart of the estate — blankets provided for cooler evenings, charcuterie boards and flatbreads served from the kitchen, and tables overlooking the vineyard rows rolling down to the blue expanse of Okanagan Lake. The artisan pastry program is a genuine highlight — the seasonal cream puffs in flavours like Black Forest, Hazelnut Chocolate Praline, and Passionfruit Vanilla sell out early and are worth planning around. Weekend food truck visits and seasonal market events add further reasons to check the calendar before you visit.
The Wine
Winemaker Manuel Zuppiger produces a portfolio of distinctly cool-climate, terroir-driven wines that reflect Lake Country's unique position between three lakes — Wood Lake, Kalamalka Lake, and Okanagan Lake — with a microclimate that moderates summer temperatures and extends the growing season beautifully. The aromatic whites are the backbone of the portfolio, led by a crisp, fruit-forward Pinot Gris, a richly aromatic Gewürztraminer, and the rare Bacchus — one of only 50 acres planted in all of BC — that delivers an exotic fragrance and dominant peach character unlike anything else on the trail. The reds, including the gold-medal-winning Solstice Pinot Noir and a structured Zweigelt, round out a lineup that consistently rewards exploration across every vintage.
