The Vibe
Poplar Grove occupies a singular position on the Naramata Bench — a winery that feels simultaneously grand and deeply personal, polished and completely approachable. Nestled on the slopes of Munson Mountain at the gateway to the Bench, the winery's architectural statement is immediately clear — a modern, airy building with floor-to-ceiling windows framing one of the most dramatic Okanagan Lake views of any tasting room in the valley. And yet despite the scale and the impressive design, the experience inside is unmistakably family — the Holler brothers or their partners often pouring behind the curved tasting pods, sharing the story of their estate with the kind of warmth that comes only from people who genuinely love what they do. Poplar Grove's founding philosophy — that great wine brings people together — is something you feel from the moment you walk through the door.
The Experience
Poplar Grove offers one of the most varied tasting program menus on the Naramata Bench — from the accessible $10 standing tasting at one of three curved pod bars to the distinctive Black Glass Blind Tasting, where guests identify varietals using only their senses and compete for a prize. The Cheese & Wine Pairing — three wines matched with three handcrafted cheeses from the on-site Poplar Grove Creamery on the lake view patio — is one of the most enjoyable and well-conceived pairing experiences on the entire Bench. The Restaurant at Poplar Grove, helmed by Executive Chef Stacy Johnston, draws serious dining accolades for its elevated farm-to-table menu built around local seasonal ingredients and paired course by course with estate wines. Sitting outside on the patio overlooking Okanagan Lake for a long lunch is one of the quintessential Naramata Bench experiences — and one that guests consistently describe as the highlight of their trip.
The Wine
The Holler family has built Poplar Grove's reputation on a simple but demanding philosophy — express the terroir of these 160 estate acres as honestly as possible, vintage after vintage, without compromise. The benchmark Pinot Gris is the calling card of the white program — aromatic, layered, and shaped by the unique volcanic and alluvial soils of Munson Mountain. The Cabernet Franc is one of the finest expressions of the varietal on the Naramata Bench — structured and elegant with the distinctive red fruit and graphite character that warm Okanagan summers deliver so beautifully to this site. The flagship Legacy, a Bordeaux-style blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, and Petit Verdot, first produced in 2003, is the wine that most clearly announces Poplar Grove's place among the finest red wine producers in BC — rich, age-worthy, and consistently rated as one of the Okanagan's most complete flagship blends.
