So, you’ve decided to do a wine tour in the Okanagan (great choice, by the way). But as you start looking at the map, you realize the "Kelowna wine scene" is actually split into several distinct pockets, each with its own vibe, views, and varietals.

How do you choose? Do you go for the high-altitude views of the Scenic Sip, the volcanic soils of West Kelowna, or the hidden gems of East Kelowna?

At Bare Wine Tours, we’ve driven these roads thousands of times. Here is the "bare" truth about each region to help you pick the perfect route for your group.

Vineyard landscape in West Kelowna overlooking the water, perfect for an Okanagan wine tour.

1. West Kelowna (The Westside Wine Trail)

The Vibe: Dramatic, established, and world-class. West Kelowna is home to some of the most iconic "bucket list" wineries in Canada. Because of the ancient volcanic soil from Mt. Boucherie, the wines here have a distinct character.

  • Best for: First-timers, architecture lovers, and fans of big Reds.

  • The Views: Dramatic cliffs overlooking the lake looking back toward downtown Kelowna.

  • Standout Wineries: Frind, Quails’ Gate, and Mt. Boucherie.

  • Pro Tip: This area gets busy. If you want a patio lunch with a view, you need to book weeks in advance—or let us handle the logistics for you.

2. Lake Country (The Scenic Sip)

The Vibe: Rolling hills, "Instagrammable" orchards, and sophisticated Whites. Located about 20 minutes north of Kelowna, Lake Country feels a bit more rural and peaceful. The "Scenic Sip" route offers incredible views of Lake Okanagan and Wood Lake.

  • Best for: Bachelorette parties, white wine lovers (Riesling and Pinot Gris thrive here), and those who want to avoid the downtown "hustle."

  • The Views: Lush, green, and arguably the most "European" feel in the valley.

  • Standout Wineries: 50th Parallel, Arrowleaf, and Ex Nihilo.

  • Pro Tip: This is one of the best routes for photo ops. The contrast of the blue water and the green vines is unbeatable.

3. East Kelowna & South Kelowna

The Vibe: Funky, boutique, and intimate. If the Westside is "The Big City," East Kelowna is the "Cool Neighborhood." These are mostly family-run, smaller-production wineries where you might actually meet the owner in the tasting room.

  • Best for: Wine "nerds," locals, and people who prefer a casual, relaxed atmosphere.

  • The Views: Looking out over the city toward the lake; lots of orchards and farmland.

  • Standout Wineries: The View, Priest Creek, and Tantalus.

  • Pro Tip: This area is also home to some of the best cideries, breweries, and distilleries in the region. It’s perfect for a "mixed" group that likes more than just wine.

Which one is right for you?

  • If you want the "Grand Tour" experience: Go West Kelowna.

  • If you want the best photos for your feed: Go Lake Country.

  • If you want to support local families and avoid crowds: Go East Kelowna.
