The Vibe
Crown & Thieves is where Jason Parkes — the creative force behind some of West Kelowna's most beloved wine experiences — let his imagination run completely off the leash. Hidden in plain sight on his home property at the tail end of the Westside Wine Trail, the winery was born in secrecy during the pandemic, built from a stash of misfit barrels too bold and too interesting to blend away into something ordinary. The result is a crumbling four-storey faux-ruin that looks like a medieval castle colliding with a speakeasy, overlooking Gellatly Bay with Mission Hill visible in the distance. Dark wood accents, flickering candles, secret nooks, and a sense of theatrical drama make this one of the most atmospherically distinctive wine experiences in the entire Okanagan — a place where wine becomes theatre and every visit feels like a story worth telling.
The Experience
The four-wine tasting flight is the entry point — guided, intimate, and full of the backstory and personality that defines everything Jason Parkes touches. But Crown & Thieves truly comes alive after the tasting. The Broken Hearts Club in the basement is a fully functioning Prohibition Era-inspired speakeasy, with a large stage, seating for up to 60 guests, live music, comedy nights, and the occasional evening of what the winery cheerfully describes as beautiful chaos. Upstairs, Angel Share is the rooftop restaurant — the crown jewel of the estate — offering elevated seasonal dining with sweeping vineyard and lake views. For something even more intimate, the Slow Wines Dinner Series pairs four courses with four Crown & Thieves wines in an all-inclusive dinner experience with very limited tickets and a devoted following.
The Wine
Crown & Thieves produces small-batch wines with an unapologetic commitment to doing things differently. Sourced from select Okanagan Valley vineyards and crafted with minimal intervention, the portfolio leans into bold, complex blends and unconventional varieties that reward the adventurous palate. Standout bottles include the Pinky Blinders Rosé — a dry, structured, and deeply flavourful expression of the style — the Pets D'oc Gewürztraminer, and a rotating cast of boundary-pushing small-batch releases that change seasonally. The wine club's twice-yearly curated shipments are among the most eagerly anticipated in the valley, consistently delivering bottles that surprise, challenge, and delight in equal measure.
